Four things the cabin does to you.
These are not edge cases. They happen on every pressurised flight, to every passenger, on every sector.
Water leaves as fast as it arrives.
Your body retains fluid using electrolytes, chiefly sodium, which regulate where water goes and whether it stays. Plain water without electrolytes dilutes the blood, your kidneys read that as a surplus, and much of what you drink passes straight through. That is why you can drink cup after cup on a flight, visit the toilet all sector, and still land dehydrated.
Clinical studies found up to 71% higher fluid retention when drinking an electrolyte solution rather than mineral water in an aircraft cabin. Same volume drunk. Very different amount kept.
